At Dean Family Child Care Home, we use the highly credited Creative Curriculum. Children ages 2-5 will benefit from this curriculum that nurtures the child and supports social, physical and intellectual development. Your child will build foundational skills in early literacy, math, music, art, social studies and sciences. Your child will learn through art projects, music, storytelling, math games, science experiments and dramatic play centered around that month's theme. Some examples of past themes are Fables and Folktales, Friends and Feelings, and In the Orchard.

At Dean Family Child Care Home, our toddlers are learning right along with the same daily topics as our preschoolers! They are learning the same skills reinforced throughout the preschool curriculum, but leveled down to match the needs of toddlers who are ages 18 months to 30 months. Their activities reinforce the foundational skills in early literacy, math, physical and social development. They enjoy getting out their Wiggles and Giggles to music, exploring their Toddler Tray Plays as well as a lot of Snuggle & Cuddle time.

We believe the children learn the best with hands-on learning activities. We use cookie cutter letters, numbers, and shapes that the children are able to touch, trace, and interact with. The children enjoy working in their Fine Motor Journals which they use all month long to write, draw, scribble or collage the ideas related to the numbers, letters, shapes, and colors they are learning.

We believe that when children are offered choices they feel more positive about their work and feel less anxious. We have Investigation Stations designated in our daycare space where the children can go and touch, build, look, create, role-play and initiate conversations with their friends. STEAM Stations are also set up for the children to be challenged in science, technology, engineering, art and math.

Ages & Stages Questionnaires are provided to help you keep track of your child's development. An initial questionnaire is completed within your child's first 45 days and you are given the results during our first Parent-Provider Meeting. A questionnaire will be provided every 2-, 4-, or 6-month period.

Discussions are initiated everyday when we get together in the morning during opening circle time and when we close the day with closing circle. A basic concept such as a number, letter, shape, or color is introduced during morning circle time. We also open and end the day with a daily theme finger play/song.

Character development is talked about and worked on each day. It is important for the children to feel self-worth and value. In return, the children will show kindness, sharing, and cooperation. The children learn to be a helper and contribute to daily classroom duties such as holding the door, wiping the table, and handing out snack. Each morning the children get to choose their daily job.

Infants and toddlers participate and play along side the preschoolers where they are exposed to learning and language as well.

We help you stay connected to your child's learning by sending home many projects that are created by your child through art, mini-books, games and little journals. Each month you will also receive a family newsletter highlighting the theme of the month. We also observe each child daily and complete developmental milestone sheets every six months. In addition to your developmental milestone sheets, the preschoolers receive a child portfolio binder at the end of the year before heading off to Kindergarten. In this binder, you will find daily photos from selected activities as well as my notes from the observations I make to link their skill benchmarks.
